Seychelles travel guide: island choices, Vallée de Mai and Aldabra

Choose the island sequence before booking rooms

Confirm where your international flight arrives and how each accommodation is reached. For a multi-island visit, obtain the actual flight or boat connection, baggage conditions and weather-disruption policy. Our suggestion is to add an island only when it gives you a distinct experience and leaves enough time to enjoy it. Keep a margin before the homebound flight rather than rely on a final sea crossing to make a tight international connection.

Give Vallée de Mai a focused visit

Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve is one of Seychelles’ two inscribed World Heritage properties. Treat it as a conservation visit with current visitor rules, not simply an item included in every island transfer. Ask about the route, guiding, opening arrangements and suitability for your group. Leave time to observe the habitat and understand why it is protected. Do not remove natural material or assume a reserve’s popularity permits access beyond designated visitor areas.

Do not advertise Aldabra as an ordinary day trip

UNESCO describes Aldabra as an isolated coral atoll whose difficult access has helped protect its ecosystems, including giant tortoises. It is a very different subject from a stay on the more commonly visited islands. A reference to Aldabra in a destination brochure should not imply inclusion in a hotel holiday. Any proposed access needs direct confirmation of permissions and specialist arrangements. We do not promise availability, a particular wildlife encounter or an easy connection.

Compare what is included on the water

For marine outings, ask who operates the vessel, what safety equipment is supplied, whether protected-area permissions are included and how cancellation works. Check activity suitability and local swimming advice rather than assume all attractive coves are equivalent. Verify current official entry and health requirements before departure.
