The Akuapem hills cool into the 1890s-era Aburi Botanical Gardens less than two hours from Accra. The Volta River was dammed at Akosombo in 1965 to create Lake Volta. Farther north are Boti Falls, Umbrella Rock, and the road toward the lake’s quieter eastern shore.
