Check the country and gateway carefully

Republic of Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo are different countries with separate entry requirements and services. Make sure every flight, visa enquiry and transfer refers to the intended country. Do not assume a river crossing or onward connection is included because a booking uses the shorthand Congo. Ask the provider to specify the arrival airport and the person responsible for each transfer before paying for accommodation or activities.

Understand Odzala-Kokoua’s appeal

UNESCO describes the Forest Massif of Odzala-Kokoua as a meeting of forest and savannah systems with significant forest-elephant and primate conservation value. This is not an open-plains safari description. Ask what form of observation or walking is actually offered and what physical demands it involves. Animal presence does not guarantee sightings, and any encounter must follow the responsible management’s rules. A good provider should explain limitations rather than promise a particular photograph.

Do not turn Sangha into a border shortcut

Sangha Trinational is another inscribed property in the country’s heritage inventory. Its shared conservation status does not create a combined visa or freely passable route between countries. If considering a specialist visit, confirm current permissions directly and review the exact movements against official advice. Do not append a neighbouring-country excursion to an itinerary simply because the forests connect on a map. Border warnings and operating arrangements must be considered independently.

Compare full arrangements, not just lodge nights

Request a quote that identifies transfers, guiding, activities, conservation fees, meals and any baggage restrictions. Clarify where extra nights are spent if a connection is delayed, who pays for them and what can be refunded. For remote stays, ask about communications and medical assistance before finalizing the route.
