Understand the shared mountain heritage
The Maloti-Drakensberg World Heritage property includes Sehlabathebe National Park in Lesotho and a component in South Africa. UNESCO describes dramatic geological landscapes, biodiversity and rock-art heritage. A shared inscription does not mean one entrance, ticket or set of border rules. Establish which side your accommodation and activities use. If a provider proposes visiting both countries, ask for the exact crossing and the permissions needed for people and vehicles.
Choose the activity before the overnight base
A scenic drive, a short guided walk and a multi-day mountain journey place different demands on your group. Ask for the named route, expected walking time, elevation changes and weather alternative. Explain mobility and experience levels before accepting a proposal. Heritage status does not indicate trail difficulty or current access.
